Solid Wanborough win - Fairford 1 v Wanborough 5

Wanborough were keen to perform this time having lost at home to Fairford the previous week and with only one sub they pulled together really well with four of their goals being the result of great teamwork and passing skill.

Jacob Chilcott scored the opener from a pass provided by Tom Moore and Will Sumner supported both Tom and Jacob three times to help create their goals. Tom scored a great individual goal as well.

Steven Tilley was our man of the match and did some great defending and Joel Trojan (our goalie) made some good saves. Jake Hammond and Will Bowley worked very hard in defence and Jake came close to goal when standing in as striker for Jacob. Matt Goldfinch played in both defence and mid and made a difference being very determined.

Fairford worked very hard and their goalie in the first half was very impressive, as she was in the match the previous week when she stopped nearly every attempt to score by Wanborough. A great team to play who worked very hard.

Wanborough Juniors v Swindon Rangers 4-3

A fast paced match in which Wanborough dominated the first half with four great goals from Tom Moore with some fine passing to help create these from Matt Goldfinch, a corner into Tom from Daniel Eastell as well as a free kick which was taken by Dan and which Tom finished finely.

Every other Wanborough player had a hand in the victory with some great defensive work from Christian Pau, Jake Hammond and Cam Averies and some excellent midfield work from Will Sumner and Matt Goldfinch. The strikers - both Jacob Chilcott and Liam O'Reilly both came close to goal action.

In the second half Rangers fought back strongly and got two good goals and were then awarded a penalty which got them their third goal. They had one final shot at goal which was tipped over the net by our brilliant goalie Joel Trojan.

Overall another good performance from the Wanborough Wasps who are now unbeaten in their last five matches.

Highworth Town v Wanborough 0-2

30/10/11:

A hard fought match on both sides with some excellent performances all round leading to a 2 goal win by Wanborough thanks to goals from Tom Moore and Liam O'Reilly.

The pleasing thing from Wanborough’s point of view was how the team pulled together with the goals being the result of excellent and unselfish passing from three or four players that led to the goals. Will Bowley excelled in defence and was this week’s Captain and our coaches Man of the Match and he was well matched in defence with Christian Pau who made some strong blocks. Jake Hammond (Captain's Man of the Match) defended well and cleared the ball safely on a number of occasions.

Will Sumner and Tom Moore worked midfield left and right very hard respectively and Jacob Chilcott and Liam attacked with Jacob close to goal scoring action and he took a pass from Will Sumner and then passed this on into Liam for his goal. Undoubtedly our brilliant goalie Joel Trojan deserved heaps of praise for confident and consistent goalkeeping and keeping a cool head when under pressure. Matthew Goldfinch was incredibly solid in defence and mid roles and again could have scored!

Highworth were unlucky not to score having a few shots just wide and other good shots saved by our goalie. Thanks to Highworth for a spirited and fair match.

Wanborough v Hungerford 2-2

16/10/11:

A really good result against the top team thus far in the division and tribute to the hard work put in by the players and the confidence they deserve.

The coaching teams for Hungerford and Wanborough agreed that both sides played brilliant football with excellent performances from all and it was a pleasure to watch.

Hungerford opened the score sheet with a fine goal and then Jacob Chilcott equalized for Wanborough. Both Tom Moore and Will Sumner came very close to scoring as did Matthew Goldfinch who had a shot on goal. Eventually Liam O'Reilly took Wanborough back ahead with a fine finish to a good pass from Will Sumner. Hungerford then equalized and the score was a fair reflection of two strong teams who played consistently throughout the match. Christian Pau was absolutely solid in Wanborough's defence. Joel Trojan for Wanborough made some exceptional saves and Hungerford's goalie matched this with some confident goalkeeping. Cameron, Daniel and Jake all put in good efforts with Man of the Match being Matt Goldfinch and Captains Man of the Match Jacob Chilcott.

Wanborough v Marlborough Youth

A fine performance from a more confident Wanborough side with all 11 players available today and keen to show their abilities following a narrow 2-1 win by Marlborough away.

We started well and Will Sumner opening the scoring, followed by Jacob Chilcott with two great goals (very close to a third as well), Tom Moore made it 4-0 at half time. In the second half Marlborough fought back and following some goal mouth scrambles ended with three well deserved goals for their determined efforts. One of our newer players Liam O'Reilly was striker for the last period of the second half and scored his first great goal for the team.

Matthew Goldfinch (our newest player) came in at the start in left back and was incredibly solid and determined and deserved his ‘Player of the Match’ award. Christian was our Captain and showed he was the right choice with supportive words for his team on pitch and very solid defending.

Joel as usual worked hard in goal which wasn’t easy when two of Marlborough’s three goals came from some very close attacks in the goal mouth. Will B and Jake worked hard and both Cam and Daniel made an impact when they were on pitch. Although not always easy when you have four subs it helps that they were all desperate to play and prove themselves.

It was good to win as we did today, rather than losing by 2-1 as we did to Marlborough in the final seconds of the away match.

Cup win v Stratton Youth 9th October

Our first cup match was away at Cirencester playing Stratton Youth.

We really were on fire in the first half with the score at 5-1 at half time. In the second half we didn’t do ourselves justice and including an own goal Stratton brought the score to 5-5 which would have been a deserved result. Unluckily from Stratton’s point of view was another own goal which came off Tom Moore’s shot on goal. A second own goal in the first half came off Will Sumner’s shot on goal. Joel was away so we had Cam in goal for the first half then Christian for the second half and both made some good efforts with Christian being the Captains player of the match. Jacob was unlucky not to score in the first half. Liam made a good contribution with some good defensive work. Will B came very close to a great goal and overall we were pleased to still be in the cup. Stratton Youth are a great team who played really hard and could equally have been the winners. Jake Hammond was player of the match.

Wanborough v Wroughton Youth

Another day and another close run match against a side with whom we are more than equal. The weather was hot and we expected both sides to tire but it was an entertaining match. Wroughton opened the scoring with a ball that just went across the line when Joel caught it. Wanborough equalised with a trademark goal from Tom Moore and unfortunately Wroughton managed to put another away. Will Sumner had at least two or three shots on goal and also made some great passes into Jacob who worked hard and was unlucky not to score. Cameron had a short at goal and Liam O’Reilly had a great debut match. Joel (our goalie) went on to play on pitch in the second half and was a determined defender whilst Daniel Eastell (this week’s Captain) had a great match and ran fast to counter attacks. In all nobody under-performed and the score was a reflection of two evenly matched teams.

Training back to Dorcan tomorrow for the winter at 6pm.

Wanborough v FC Chippenham

Our second league match of the season was all action with goals galore. Despite an unusually hesitant start and Chippenham opening the scoring we fought back and given another ten minutes in the end might have evened up the score.

Last year’s top scorer Tom again used his speed to his advantage and gained two goals, Jacob in his striker role put another away in fine fashion and Will S continued his form with another goal ending the match with seven for the opposition and four for Wanborough. Midfield worked very hard throughout with Will on the left and Tom on the right and both ran non stop throughout.

Despite the result and some good passing play by Chippenham there were some great efforts by the rest of the Wanborough squad with Will B and Christian and Sam in defence and again an outstanding job done by our goalie Joel. Daniel played some determined football as did Cameron and Jake in central midfield with some great tackling and determination to win the ball.

Looking forward to our next fixture away to Marlborough on Sunday 18th September.

Wanborough v Abbey Meads

Our first match of the season and a confident start. Our opposition were organised and played well with some solid performances but our boys all settled back into their positions and this seemed to give greater confidence. Tom opened the scoring in typical speedy fashion followed by Will S – the two of them running the length of the pitch every few minutes taking their duties as wingers seriously when it comes to defence and goal-scoring combined. Will made a great pass into Jacob who scored and was our first Captain of the season. Jacob was noticeably back to form in terms of his speed and was in the right place up front. Tom followed up with another outstanding goal as did Will S – both looked like they could have made more! Jake came close to scoring with a great shot on goal and Joel played a superb match in goal repeating his performance in our friendly last week when he made six great saves. Christian solid as ever in defence and Will B got very busy in defence when he came on, as well as Sam who felt and seemed much stronger defensively. Daniel was itching to go whilst a sub and came on keen to make a difference. A good result against a good team and importantly the boys all enjoyed the experience of being back playing matches together.

Next Sunday is another home match against FC Chippenham A.
