Wanborough v FC Chippenham

Our second league match of the season was all action with goals galore. Despite an unusually hesitant start and Chippenham opening the scoring we fought back and given another ten minutes in the end might have evened up the score.

Last year’s top scorer Tom again used his speed to his advantage and gained two goals, Jacob in his striker role put another away in fine fashion and Will S continued his form with another goal ending the match with seven for the opposition and four for Wanborough. Midfield worked very hard throughout with Will on the left and Tom on the right and both ran non stop throughout.

Despite the result and some good passing play by Chippenham there were some great efforts by the rest of the Wanborough squad with Will B and Christian and Sam in defence and again an outstanding job done by our goalie Joel. Daniel played some determined football as did Cameron and Jake in central midfield with some great tackling and determination to win the ball.

Looking forward to our next fixture away to Marlborough on Sunday 18th September.

Wanborough v Abbey Meads

Our first match of the season and a confident start. Our opposition were organised and played well with some solid performances but our boys all settled back into their positions and this seemed to give greater confidence. Tom opened the scoring in typical speedy fashion followed by Will S – the two of them running the length of the pitch every few minutes taking their duties as wingers seriously when it comes to defence and goal-scoring combined. Will made a great pass into Jacob who scored and was our first Captain of the season. Jacob was noticeably back to form in terms of his speed and was in the right place up front. Tom followed up with another outstanding goal as did Will S – both looked like they could have made more! Jake came close to scoring with a great shot on goal and Joel played a superb match in goal repeating his performance in our friendly last week when he made six great saves. Christian solid as ever in defence and Will B got very busy in defence when he came on, as well as Sam who felt and seemed much stronger defensively. Daniel was itching to go whilst a sub and came on keen to make a difference. A good result against a good team and importantly the boys all enjoyed the experience of being back playing matches together.

Next Sunday is another home match against FC Chippenham A.
