Wanborough Juniors v Ashton Keynes 4-1

A quick turn-around after our match on Sunday and the challenge of an evening match when the light is going fast.

We kicked off just after 7 with only Steven and Cam not available as subs. We soon found that Ashton Keynes were strong on the ball and quick to get it back where they lost it but our lads held their shape and passed to counter this. Matt Goldfinch in goal was ready but it was Tom Moore who opened the score sheet for Wanborough from a Jacob Chilcott assist. We had Will Bowley and Christian Pau back in defence and both did some great work there to protect our goal. The second goal was an own goal from Ashton Keynes with Will Sumner crossing in and one of the opposition putting it into the next – something he couldn’t avoid. Liam O’Reilly came on as sub for Will Sumner (our captain) and immediately had an effect assisting Tom Moore in his second goal. Joel Trojan and Dan Eastell both worked their socks off on the wings with some determined tackling and Jake Hammond made some incredible attempts to hot their goal but it was Jacob who made our final goal in superb fashion from a Liam O’Reilly assist. 4-1 to Wanborough the final score.

Looking forward to our cup match v Highworth this Sunday. 10.30 kick off.

Wanborough v Lydiard Youth Blue

Our first match of the new season was a good test of the training, which has emphasised over the summer the importance of positions.

The lads faced a newly promoted Lydiard Youth Blue who proved to be a very effective team. However fresh from many training sessions and his Swindon Town summer courses, Jake Hammond started as striker and did a fabulous job completing a hat-trick during the match and probably having his best match ever – even when playing at the back in the second half and coming forward. Steven Tilley also had a great match starting in a new position on the wing and running with great effect. Will Sumner and Tom Moore both did their usual marathons – Will from centre-mid initially then moving to left and Tom on the right. Will scored one goal and Tom two goals. Jacob Chilcott came on in the second half and did a fine job taking another goal. Joel Trojan also played in a new position and did really well, being instrumental in Jacob’s goal. Dan Eastell (Captain) did a great job – leading the team on and running his socks off as did Cam Averies in centre mid later on. Christian Pau was very solid in defence and Matt Goldfinch did a superb job in his new role as full-time goalie making some great saves.

Lydiard made a couple of great goals – one from a way out which was unstoppable and we also have an own goal in a bit of a goal-mouth scramble which couldn’t be avoided. They were a good team to play – strong but fair and we look forward to meeting them again in December. 7-3 to Wanborough being the final score.

On to our next League match on Tuesday against Ashton Keynes.

Saturday Team Club - WJFC U9 & U8's at STFC

Wanborough Juniors enjoyed a great day out at STFC on 25th February to watch Swindon Town beat Accrington Stanley at The County Ground.

The boys has a fascinating behind the scenes tour of the stadium with lots of information about how the Swindon Town Team work under new boss Paulo Di Canio – lots of tips for the boys about good diet – ban the energy drinks and enjoy some Jelly Babies before a match! Plus lots of fitness and respect for ‘the Boss’.

They all went on to St Joseph’s School for training and match practice with the Swindon Town Football in the Community Coaches who hosted a great day for all. This was followed by Dominos’ pizza for lunch and then a leisurely walk up to the County Ground to watch the first team action – and the Swindon boys didn’t disappoint. The lads got autographs from the players and watched a thrilling match made all the more exciting watching the passion of the new manager from the dug-out.

Thanks to Jon Holloway and the Team at Swindon Town for a brilliant day out which was also supported by Wanborough JFC.

Swindon Rangers 4 - Wanborough Juniors 7

A thrilling match from the start with Swindon Rangers opening the scoring but then as Wanborough made their first substitutions Will Sumner passed across the Rangers goal for Jacob Chilcott to finish! The Wanborough goal tally continued with Jacob scoring another goal, Cameron Averies making a great single handed strike from ahead of the field of play, Liam O'Reilly scored two great goals with Tom Moore netting another, from one of his trademark speedy runs up the wing. Although disappointed not to score Will Sumner helped create several of the goals from central and left positions. Matt Goldfinch, Christian Pau and Will Bowley put in fine defensive performances helped along by Steven Tilley and Jake Hammond in midfield.

Wanborough's outstanding player though was our goalie Joel Trojan who made some great instinctive and decisive saves and was instrumental in our home win against Swindon Rangers when we last played.

All credit to Swindon Rangers who put in a strong and spirited performance throughout the match.
